NEW YORK (May 17, 2021) -- The National Urban League today welcomed the 2021 cohort of its Emerging Leaders Program.

Emerging Leaders is a competitive development opportunity for non-profit and community-based professionals to develop analytical and critical leadership skills.

“Developing a pipeline of talented individuals with the training, skills, and abilities to lead our movement in the future is a vital component of our work,” National Urban League Senior Vice President and Chief Talent Officer Wanda Jackson said. “We believe there is no success without successors, and we are committed to helping young professionals achieve their full potential.”

This year, the program has partnered with Georgetown Business for Impact, an education, research, and consulting group within Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.

“With its focus on the intersection of the private, public and nonprofit sectors, Business for Impact aligns perfectly with the mission and goals of Emerging Leaders,” Jackson said.

The 21 participants in the program will attend four Business for Impact sessions that will expose them to the competencies in the League's Leadership Model, provide direct access to thought leaders in profit and non-profit sector, and link classroom learning with real-time activities.  Other sessions offer the  opportunity to network with past ELP graduates, and to hone fundraising and fiscal management skills.

The cohort will design and present a final project applying their enhanced skills and own personal work experience to a real-life Urban League Affiliate challenge.
