Columbia Urban League Brings High Speed Internet to Students

COLUMBIA (May 1, 2023) – The Columbia Urban League (Columbia, SC) has partnered with the Fairfield County School District to provide internet to students.

Along with the technology company Viasat, the program, called Plugged In, will not only bring high speed internet to eligible families, but also a computer and other digital resources.

An information session will take place this coming Thursday, May 4th at Fairfield Middle School for those who wish to get more information.

Urban League of Greater Chattanooga to Host Hiring Event

CHATTANOOGA (May 1, 2023) – The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN) has partnered with Unum to help area residents find work.

On Tuesday, May 2nd the Urban League will host a resume and interview skills workshop, with an in-person hiring event taking place on Tuesday, May 9th.

Candy Johnson, President and CEO of the Urban League, said, “We are very excited to be partnering with Unum for this career development workshop and hiring event. At Urban League we strive to provide the training necessary for individuals to be properly equipped and successful in the workforce.”

The May 2nd event will focus on enhancing resumes and interview skills. Participants are encouraged to attend the May 2nd event before the hiring event on May 9th.

Winston-Salem Urban League Offers Job Opportunities for Seniors

 WINSTON-SALEM (May 1, 2023) – The Winston-Salem Urban League (Winston-Salem, NC) is offering senior county residents the opportunity to get back into the workforce.

The program is for residents of Wilkes County aged 55 and over for paid training programs through the Senior Community Service Employment Program.

Participants will get paid minimum wage for up to 20 hours of training/work per week for four years.

Opportunities are available in the clerical, food service, maintenance, transportation childcare and other various areas.

Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Partners with Walmart for Black Women Entrepreneurs

ST. LOUIS (May 1, 2023) – The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) just made a huge step in helping Black women with businesses.

The Urban League just announced a partnership with Walmart for three years, with a goal of getting Black women-businesses into stores.

Already, inaugural classes have begun, part of a year long program that will also have a graduation ceremony at its conclusion. The program is open to entrepreneurs that have been in business for two years.

Other cities that are participating in the partnership with Walmart are Atlanta, Cleveland, and Cincinnati.
