UBIZ Venture Capital Announces William Hartley Parker As Executive in Residence

CLEVELAND (Feb. 13, 2023)– UBIZ Venture Capital, an affiliate organization of the Urban League of Greater Cleveland (Cleveland, OH) has named William Hartley Parker, CTP as the Executive in Residence for UBIZ and the newly launched Business Growth Institute (BGI).

Parker brings a wealth of knowledge and decades of experience, which includes senior executive and C-level positions with fortune 500 retailers, private equity firms, and Parker Revenue Growth Strategies, which develops and executes revenue growth, turnaround strategies, and preparing exit plans for lower middle-market private companies.

Pittsburgh Urban League Prioritizing Economic Opportunity

PITTSBURGH (Feb. 13, 2023) – Pittsburgh Urban League (Pittsburgh, PA) CEO Carlos T. Carter spoke at a church this past Sunday, Feb. 12th to speak on how the Urban League is focusing on economic opportunity for the community.

Speaking at the Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Larimar for Urban League Sunday, Mr. Carter spoke to the congregation on how the Urban League, entering it’s 105th year of operation, is looking to prioritize economic opportunity.

Urban League Sunday is a celebration that the Urban League hosts during Black History Month that is held at a different church yearly. It highlights the longstanding partnership between the Urban League and Black churches in the Pittsburgh region.

National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial Debuts as Contributing Columnist For Chicago Sun-Times

Schnuck Markets to Round Up for Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (Feb. 6, 2023) – As part of Black History Month, Schnuck Markets will give customers the chance to “Round Up at the Register.”

Funds from the round ups will be donated to the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, which will then use them to fund their Save Our Sons programs.

Last year, round ups collected by Schnuck customers in the St. Louis area totaled $150,000 that were then donated to the Urban League.

American Water Charitable Foundation & General Counsel Donate $200k to Urban League Movement

CAMDEN (Feb. 6, 2023) - The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, and American Water’s General Counsel Jim Gallegos announced today, a combined total donation of $200,000 to the National Urban League and the Affiliate Movement. The funding will enhance workforce development initiatives that help close the equality gap for African-Americans and other historically underserved groups throughout American Water’s National footprint.

Urban League of the Twin Cities Partners with Walser for Black Gems Program

MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 6, 2023) – The Urban League of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) is now partnering with the Walser Automotive Group to help create the black leaders of the future.

The program, named Black Gems, is a readiness program for high school students. The goal of the program is to help students go from high school to college, and beyond, focusing on post-grad education and career development.

One aspect of the program is the tour they take in the spring. They visit HBCUs, civil rights monuments, and local museums. As part of the partnership, the 20 program participants will have all their travel fees covered by the Walser Foundation, which is funding the partnership.
