National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial Debuts as Contributing Columnist For Chicago Sun-Times
NEW YORK (February 8, 2023) –Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, has joins Chicago’s Sun-Times as a contributing columnist.
“I’m excited to be joining the Sun-Times family,” Morial said. “I look forward to sharing my views on civil rights and urban issues, along with the prominent role Chicagoans have played and continue to play in the ongoing movement for racial justice.”

Schnuck Markets to Round Up for Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis
ST. LOUIS (Feb. 6, 2023) – As part of Black History Month, Schnuck Markets will give customers the chance to “Round Up at the Register.”
Funds from the round ups will be donated to the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, which will then use them to fund their Save Our Sons programs.
Last year, round ups collected by Schnuck customers in the St. Louis area totaled $150,000 that were then donated to the Urban League.
American Water Charitable Foundation & General Counsel Donate $200k to Urban League Movement
CAMDEN (Feb. 6, 2023) - The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, and American Water’s General Counsel Jim Gallegos announced today, a combined total donation of $200,000 to the National Urban League and the Affiliate Movement. The funding will enhance workforce development initiatives that help close the equality gap for African-Americans and other historically underserved groups throughout American Water’s National footprint.
Urban League of the Twin Cities Partners with Walser for Black Gems Program
MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 6, 2023) – The Urban League of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) is now partnering with the Walser Automotive Group to help create the black leaders of the future.
The program, named Black Gems, is a readiness program for high school students. The goal of the program is to help students go from high school to college, and beyond, focusing on post-grad education and career development.
One aspect of the program is the tour they take in the spring. They visit HBCUs, civil rights monuments, and local museums. As part of the partnership, the 20 program participants will have all their travel fees covered by the Walser Foundation, which is funding the partnership.
Columbus Urban League Receives $3M from JP Morgan Chase
COLUMBUS (Feb. 6, 2023) – A new initiative coming out of the Columbus Urban League (Columbus, OH) has just received new funding.
Last Wednesday, Jan. 31st, JPMorgan Chase announced that it will be investing $3 million dollars in the Urban League’s new entrepreneurship initiative, Accelerate Her. The program looks to educate and provide support for 100 women and entrepreneurs in the Columbus area.
The initiative will also give the participants access to capital and future contracting opportunities.
