Las Vegas Urban League Entrepreneurship Center Helps Small Businesses in the Community by Hosting “Shark Tank” Pitch Competitions

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 20, 2023)- The Las Vegas Urban League (Las Vegas, NV) in its efforts to provide opportunities for small business owners to acquire badly needed funding and receive training on how to manage and strategically operate their businesses, recently sponsored two “Shark Tank” Small Business Pitch Competitions through its Innovation Center for Entrepreneurship.
The Entrepreneurship Center, in collaboration with its partners at Wells Fargo Bank and other community partners, provide business education, business training, and one-on-one counseling to new entrepreneurs looking to start a business and to existing small business owners looking to scale up and grow their businesses. The Entrepreneurship Center encouraged startup, new and existing small business owners to pitch their business concept, premise, and value proposition in the hope of receiving a monetary grant to support their businesses.
Grants awarded included: First Prize, $15,000; Second Prize, $10,000; and third Prize, $5,000. Applicants were required to submit an online application that asked questions about their business, their value proposition and how they will use the money. Applicants had to upload a 60-second video “elevator pitch” which described their respective businesses and how they would provide value to the community. All application finalists were given 3 to 5 minutes to present their pitch in front of a panel of judges from the Las Vegas business community.
Both Pitch Competitions were tremendous successes, and the Urban League was able to give away $60,000 in grant monies to small businesses and they look forward to hosting similar events soon to support our minority owned small businesses here in the state of Nevada.
