Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle Receives $200K from Bank of America

SEATTLE (Nov. 27, 2023) - The Bank of America's Neighborhood Builders program, spanning 19 years, has been a beacon for nonprofits, offering financial backing and leadership training during difficult times.
In the Seattle area, two chosen nonprofits annually receive a $200,000 grant spread over two years, coupled with extensive leadership training, to address pivotal issues like food insecurity and bolstering marginalized communities.
The 2023 Neighborhood Builders awardees, the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (Seattle, WA) and Emergency Food Network, epitomize the program's strategic focus. The Urban League champions empowerment within underserved communities through multifaceted programs spanning education, housing, public health, entrepreneurship, and workforce development. The partnership with Bank of America will further enable their efforts in home preparation and affordable housing development.
“We’re just so excited and thrilled that Bank of America is working with us and allowing us to expand our work,” said Michelle Merriweather, President and CEO of the Urban League. “A lot of our work will focus on not only preparing future homeowners, but also developing affordable housing as well, so we’re really excited about this funding.”
As Pierce County's sole nonprofit food distributor, the Emergency Food Network has been serving over 75 food pantries and meal sites, furnishing more than 12.2 million meals yearly. The organization grapples with a pivotal moment, witnessing a 30% surge in demand.
