Columbus Urban League Tries to Ease Electricity Bill Woes

COLUMBUS (March 27, 2023) – The Columbus Urban League is preparing ways to help the community pay their electricity bills this summer.

AEP Ohio customers are expected to see an increase in their electricity bills this coming summer, and the Urban League is looking for ways to help residents.

Stephanie Hightower, President and CEO of the Urban League, said, “It’s coming and there’s nothing we can do about it, but to adjust how we help people to keep them stabilized, that’s what we have to concentrate on.”

With new rates reportedly coming in June, the Urban League is looking at new ways to fight the hike.

Deputy Superintendent for school improvement and community engagement, Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan, helped organize the tour after students asked if HBCUs could come to their respective schools.
