NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE MOURNS THE PASSING OF U.S. REP. DONALD PAYNE, JR.

NEW YORK (April 24, 2024) – National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement regarding the death of U.S. Rep Donald Payne, Jr. of New Jersey:

“The Urban League community is devastated to learn of the passing of Congressman Payne, a dedicated public servant and true champion for working families.

"His commitment to racial justice and voting rights was unwavering, reflected in his support for legislation to expand the Voting Rights Act and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

"He was a friend to the Urban League and was instrumental in securing federal funding for entrepreneurship and community health programs at the Urban League affiliates in Essex, Hudson, and Union counties. 

"His good nature and open heart will be missed. The Urban League community extends our deepest condolences his family and constituents.”
