AURORA (March 20, 2023) – The Quad County Urban League (Aurora, IL), in partnership with Kane County and GRNE Solar, held a solar workshop and tour recently.
The tour was organized by Urban League staff member George Allen, who had students from the workforce development program at Kendall County Health Department, was of the MW Kane County Judicial Center solar facility, which took place on Wednesday, March 8th.
Jeremy Hoerauf and Eric Gronwick, representatives from GRNE Solar, were also on hand to host a classroom session on the basics of solar energy and how it was a growing industry with plenty of growth opportunities.
ATLANTA (March 20, 2023) – Last week, the Urban League of Greater Atlanta (Atlanta, GA) revealed their first “State of Black Georgia” report.
Some of the findings in the report found that 36% of Black students in the state were failing to read at a third-grade level. Another standout of the report was that while the Black population in the state was 32%, the State Department of Corrections reported that 50% of inmates in 2021 were Black.
President and CEO of the Urban League, Nancy Flake-Johnson, spoke of the report in an interview with Georgia Public Broadcasting.
BINGHAMTON (March 20, 2023) – Parents of Binghamton, rejoice.
This past Friday, March 17th, the Broome County Urban League (Binghamton, NY) announced $750,000 in federal funding to assist in their Broome County Childcare Expansion program. The funds will enable the Urban League to open up hundreds of childcare spots, which will be affordable to parents.
The funds will also be used to renovate the Urban League’s facilities and reinforcing their childcare programming.

RICHMOND (March , 13, 2023) - Pearl, the leading tutor intelligence and efficacy platform, today announced it has joined the innovative community-based tutoring program endorsed by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin in partnership with the Urban Leagues of Hampton Roads and Greater Richmond and four historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). In an effort to address critical learning gaps, the program will employ hundreds of HBCU students as tutors and mentors to middle and high school students throughout their communities.
