The Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City Hosts Expungement Party
OKLAHOMA CITY (April 10, 2023) – This upcoming Wednesday, April 12th, the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City (Oklahoma City, OK) will host the Second Annual Expungement Expo.
Eligible applicants will be able to speak to volunteer attorneys who will draft initial pleadings in regards to their respective cases.
Before the event, volunteer attorneys will be taught how to draft the materials needed to expunge applicant’s records.
Volunteer licensed attorneys are still being asked to volunteer their time at the event, which starts at 5:30 PM at the law offices of Crowe and Dunleavy.
Food and drink will be served at the event.
Shenango Valley Urban League to Host Event Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
FARRELL (April 10, 2023) – The Shenango Valley Urban League (Farrell, PA) hopes to open a much-needed conversation with business owners and potential employees about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The event, called the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Breakfast and Career Fair will take place on April 21st, at Avalon at Buhl Park in Hermitage. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 AM, with the career fair will begin at 10:30 AM.
According to the Urban League, this event came from wanting to do something different, other than their usual anniversary banquet.
According to Urban League President and CEO, Dr. Erin Houston, “This is an important conversation to have in our home and workplaces. This is an event you don’t want to miss.”
Greater Sacramento Urban League Introduces Entrepreneurship to Area Youth
SACRAMENTO (April 10, 2023) - Last week, the Greater Sacramento Urban League (Sacramento, CA) hosted a five- day program aimed at introducing entrepreneurship to area youth, from the ages of 14-24.
The program, called “Money Motivated Spring Break,” hopes to get area youth excited about entrepreneurship.
Laura Murrell of the Urban League, said, “We’re here to help young people get their feet wet in entrepreneurship. We’re focused on educating, empowering, and employing people throughout the Greater Sacramento region. This program is important because one of the pillars of the Greater Sacramento Urban League is economic empowerment. That means focusing on wealth building and financial freedom.”
Urban League of Greater Cleveland Trying to Close Racial Wealth Gap
CLEVELAND (April 10, 2023) – There is a concerted effort to close the racial wealth gap in Cleveland, driven by organizations such as the Urban League of Greater Cleveland (Cleveland, OH).
According to Michael Obi, the president of UBIZ Venture Capital at the Urban League, notes that the wealth gap is about income. With that reasoning, there are various ways to have individuals increase their income potential, such as education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
The area that Obi has started to focus on is entrepreneurship, as he says, “The wealthiest Americans ae usually the people that create jobs.”

March Jobs Report: Black Unemployment Hits Record Low Despite Weaker-Than-Expected Job Growth

Private employment growth in March was weaker than expected; with 236,000 jobs added and most industries showed little or no change in employment.
Wage growth reflected a gradual easing of tight labor markets, though the job opening/available worker gap remained large. . Fewer employers are raising wages to retain labor and attract new employees. Some firms in the technology industry have laid off or are planning to pay off about 10 thousand workers. At the same time, the leisure/hospitality industry and health care are vigorously seeking employees. Overall there are about one million more jobs open than workers seeking employment.
