Urban League of Greater Hartford Gives Away 550 Backpacks

HARTFORD (Aug. 28, 2023) – Hey, kids of Hartford, summer is almost over.

The Urban League of Greater Hartford (Hartford, CT) recently held an event for students and their parents to pick up free school supplies.

The Urban League was able to give away 550 backpacks to families at their offices on Woodland Street.

The backpacks contained several supplies for kids to aid them on their first day of classes, such as folders, pens, pencils, notebooks, and index cards. Also available for students and their families were clothes, and vendors with other supplies.

Urban League of West Michigan Hopes to Expand Programming with New Purchase

GRAND RAPIDS (Aug. 28, 2023) – The Urban League of West Michigan (Grand Rapids, MI) hopes to expand their youth programming with their most recent purchase.

The Urban League recently purchased a neighboring building that housed a former church back in late July. The building, formerly owned by Good Shepherd Church, sits across from the Urban League office on 735 Eastern Ave SE.

According to the President of the Urban League, Eric D. Brown, the Urban League, and Good Shepherd have been in conversations for the Urban League to purchase the building for quite some time. The Urban League plans to redevelop the building to further their youth programs.

Buffalo Urban League Receives Funding Commitment from Fidelis Care

BUFFALO (Aug. 28, 2023) - Fidelis Care, a leading health insurer providing quality, affordable coverage to New Yorkers, and the Centene Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Centene Corporation focused on investing in economically challenged communities, announced today a $1.1 million funding commitment to the Buffalo Urban League (Buffalo, NY) to develop a Wellness and Entrepreneurial Center ("the Center") designed to nurture social entrepreneurship, facilitate wellness and strengthen organizations focused on Black, Indigenous and People of Color in Buffalo's East Side.

Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Announces Partnerships to Provide Healthcare Jobs to Underserved Communities

ST. LOUIS (Aug. 28, 2023) – The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) has recently announced a new ten-year partnership that is a new weapon in the fight for health equity.

The Urban League has partnered with SSM Health and Siemens Healthineers to not only expand access to top-notch healthcare but will also provide training for careers in the healthcare industry to communities that are currently woefully underserved.
