NEW YORK (November 7, 2024) -- National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to the presidential election results:

“As champions of voting rights and fair representation, reproductive freedom, diversity, equity, and inclusion, we at the National Urban League recognize the concern and alarm raised by the election of Donald Trump.

“The National Urban League was a frequent critic of President Trump during his first term, fighting back against unprecedented rollback of civil and human rights and advocating for a just and equitable response to a global pandemic that inflicted damage to our economy that still is being felt today.

"Our 'Reclaim Your Vote' initiative to register, educate, and mobilize voters across the country brought hundreds of Americans into the democratic process who might otherwise have been disenfranchised or discouraged by racially discriminatory voting laws and misinformation campaigns.  I'm extremely proud of the staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to counteract voter suppression, and of the voters who fought back to make their voices heard.

“We remain committed to defending democracy, demanding diversity, and defeating poverty, to working with the incoming administration where our policy agendas align, to holding it accountable to the ideals enshrined in our Constitution.”
