Urban League of Greater Kansas City Releases “State of Black Kansas City”

KANSAS CITY (Nov. 6, 2023) - The Urban League of Greater Kansas City (Kansas City, MO) recently held its 16th Annual Urban Summit Conference, where they released their 2023 "State of Black Kansas City" report.

The report, titled "From Redlining to Chalk Lines,” highlights the correlation between poverty, resource scarcity, and violent crime within the Black community in Kansas City.

The conference aimed to foster discussions on issues impacting the Black community in Kansas City.

Gwen Grant, the President and CEO of the Urban League, emphasized the need for significant financial investments in distressed communities, which is a root cause of crime.

Mollie Moon: Black Socialite…and Civil Rights Activist

NEW YORK (Nov. 6, 2023) There is a new book about the significant role of Black socialite Mollie Moon in the civil rights movement of the 1940s, '50s, and '60s, with a particular focus on her association with the National Urban League. Moon served as the president of the fundraising arm of the Urban League and played a pivotal role in raising millions of dollars to promote economic and racial equality in the United States.

Pinellas County Urban League Hosts Annual Soirée

ST. PETERSBURG (Oct. 30, 2023) - The Pinellas County Urban League (St. Petersburg, FL) held a soirée.

The Sankofa Soirée, also known as the Urban League’s annual Equal Opportunity Day Gala, was held on October 14th at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park.

The gala, in its 46th year, marked a historic moment as Nikki Gaskin-Capehart became the first woman to lead the Urban League.

The Urban League of Northwest Indiana Celebrates Community Leaders with Gala

GARY (Oct. 30, 2023) - The Urban League of Northwest Indiana (Gary, IN) held its Annual Diversity and Inclusion Luncheon last week.

The annual event was held on Wednesday, Oct. 25th, where they recognized individuals and organizations making a positive impact in the community. The event, which featured a keynote address by Magistrate Erika C. Stallworth, emphasized the importance of inclusion initiatives and the progress toward greater diversity in the surrounding counties.

Knoxville Area Urban League Hosts Sold Out Gala

KNOXVILLE (Oct. 30, 2023) - The Knoxville Area Urban League (Knoxville, TN) hosted its annual Equal Opportunity Awards Gala recently.

The annual gala, which took place at the Knoxville Convention Center on Thursday, October 26th, celebrates community leaders who have contributed to ensuring equitable opportunities in the Knoxville community.

The awards recognized notable figures in minority businesses and corporate leadership, and the Urban League also presented the Whitney M. Young Jr. Lifetime Achievement Awards.
