Volkswagen Group of America and the Urban League Announce Future Leaders in Mobility Program
Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA) and the Greater Washington Urban League or GWUL (Washington, DC) announced the new “Future Leaders in Mobility Program,” set to run from August 16, 2021 through August 20, 2021. This week-long program is for rising high school juniors and seniors from historically underserved and vulnerable populations in the Washington, DC metro area and will focus on informing students about the broad range of career opportunities in the automotive industry.
“Offering education and career training for high school students is something we’re extremely passionate about at VWGoA,” said Anna Schneider, Senior Vice President, Industry and Government Relations for Volkswagen Group of America. “We are excited to meet these local, rising-star students and offer them insights and guidance into careers in the automotive industry.”
VWGoA will host the week of scheduled activities and sessions with company leadership at its headquarters in Herndon, Virginia, in accordance with all mandated health and safety protocols. This learning experience will cover topics across VWGoA’s numerous brands and departments to provide students a close look at the various exciting automotive careers paths available such as engineering, marketing, communications, finance and dealership operations. The GWUL will select 20 students from the pool of applicants.
Following the week-long program, students will have the opportunity to participate in a formal, year-long mentorship program to connect with VWGoA leadership on further career advice and guidance as they chart their academic studies. The mentorship offering will be tailored to match the student’s career interests.
“We are thrilled to partner with VWGoA and have the opportunity to offer students the chance to get an inside look at the automotive industry,” said George Lambert, President and CEO of the Greater Washington Urban League. “Professional development and exposure to career paths are incredibly important for high school students, particularly those in underserved communities.”
The application period opens today and will close on May 28, 2021.
