Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Announces Partnerships to Provide Healthcare Jobs to Underserved Communities
ST. LOUIS (Aug. 28, 2023) – The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) has recently announced a new ten-year partnership that is a new weapon in the fight for health equity.
The Urban League has partnered with SSM Health and Siemens Healthineers to not only expand access to top-notch healthcare but will also provide training for careers in the healthcare industry to communities that are currently woefully underserved.
SSM Health has been a long-time friend and partner to the Urban League, and Siemens, an industry leader in medical technology, will join to invest in programs that address early detection in chronic diseases for communities in need. The partnership also seeks to address the shortage of radiologic technologists with apprenticeship opportunities through the Urban League’s Save Our Sons & Save Our Sisters programs.
These apprenticeship programs will provide training and foster mentorship for the local community that the Urban League currently serves.
Michael P. McMillan, President and CEO of the Urban League, said, “We are extremely excited to build on our longstanding relationship with SSM and join Siemens Healthineers in this groundbreaking partnership to recruit, train, and place women and people of color in a lucrative and growing career field.”
He isn’t wrong – according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment in the radiology field will grow by 6% by 2031, with an annual salary of over $60k.
