NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE EXTENDS SYMPATHY AND SUPPORT TO TORNADO VICTIMS, URGES IMMEDIATE FEDERAL RELIEF

NEW YORK (December 13, 2021) – The National Urban League and its network of 92 affiliates extends its deepest sympathy and support to the families and communities who have lost loved ones to the devastating tornadoes that swept through Kentucky and other states, National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial said today.

“It is heartbreaking to witness the loss of life and uprooting of communities,” Morial said. “Our heartfelt prayers go out to the survivors, the rescue workers, and everyone whose lives have been touched by the disaster.”

Morial applauded President Biden’s prompt declaration of a federal emergency in Kentucky and urged members of Congress to approve additional disaster relief funds for the states affected by the crisis.

“In keeping with our role as economic first-responders, we will work closely with the Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County,  Louisville Urban League, and other affiliates to support any relief efforts they may initiate,” he added.

Morial encouraged Americans who wish to help to donate or volunteer with their local Urban League affiliate, or to the Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund established by Governor Andy Beshear.
