Columbus Urban League Tries to Ease Electricity Bill Woes

COLUMBUS (March 27, 2023) – The Columbus Urban League is preparing ways to help the community pay their electricity bills this summer.

AEP Ohio customers are expected to see an increase in their electricity bills this coming summer, and the Urban League is looking for ways to help residents.

Stephanie Hightower, President and CEO of the Urban League, said, “It’s coming and there’s nothing we can do about it, but to adjust how we help people to keep them stabilized, that’s what we have to concentrate on.”

With new rates reportedly coming in June, the Urban League is looking at new ways to fight the hike.

Urban League of Rochester Sponsors HBCU Tour to DC

ROCHESTER (March 27, 2023) – The Urban League of Rochester (Rochester, NY) recently sponsored a group of suburban high school students to tour historically Black colleges and universities.

The group consisted of almost 300 students from area high schools, all from suburban areas, in which they didn’t feel a sense of belonging at their own respective schools.

Deputy Superintendent for school improvement and community engagement, Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan, helped organize the tour after students asked if HBCUs could come to their respective schools.

No One, Not Even A Former President, Is Above The Law

Marc H. Morial
President and CEO
National Urban League

“An indictment of the former president, followed by orderly due process, would show that no one is immune to following the law simply because he is famous, wealthy, politically powerful, willing to threaten the justice system, or possessed of intemperate and powerful followers such as Representative Andy Biggs. Biggs has accidentally stumbled on the secret of rule of law, in which no one is above accountability.” -- David A. Graham

It’s meant to be a dire warning – a call to arms for the MAGA army:

"Remember, if they can do this to me, they can do it to anyone!" Donald Trump howls.
