Supreme Court Abortion Case Is “The Remnants Of The Lost Cause Still Blowing In The Political Winds”

Marc H. Morial
President and CEO
National Urban League

“This is less about policy and more about pure and simple voting harvesting. Obviously, there is very little support for neonatal care or curbing the death penalty, so ‘pro-life’ is a ridiculous misnomer. They are less pro-life than they are pro-political power — their own … This is the remnants of the Lost Cause still blowing in the political winds.” – Vanderbilt Professor of History Jefferson Cowie

The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine’s mission statement claims to “uphold and promote” the principle of “providing healthcare with the highest standards of excellence based on medical science.”

National Urban League President Marc Morial Celebrates Election of First Black Sheriff in Caddo Parish, Calling it a "Triumph for Democracy"

NEW YORK  (March 27, 2024) – National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to Henry Whitehorn’s election as Sheriff of Caddo Parish:

“Henry Whitehorn’s election represents a triumph not only over the historic racial violence that earned this region the nickname “Bloody Caddo,” but also over the deplorable voter suppression tactics of the present. For months, Mr. Whitehorn’s opponent and his supporters refused to accept the will of the voters and contaminated the democratic process with disinformation.

“Mr. Whitehorn’s election is a triumph for democracy and a testament to his integrity. The people of Caddo Parish have spoken, and we have every confidence they will be well-served by their choice.”

Civil Rights Groups Push Back Against Wave of Anti-DEI Bills

So far this year, at least five state legislatures have passed bills seeking to curtail diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. This year’s batch may seep more into the classroom.

By, Ryan Quinn, InsideHigherEd.com

Despite vocal opposition from faculty members and racial justice groups, Indiana’s Republican governor signed legislation Wednesday diminishing diversity, equity and inclusion programs and tenure protections in public colleges and universities while simultaneously promoting, as the new law puts it, “intellectual diversity.”
