Urban League of Springfield Celebrates 107th Anniversary

For more than 100 years, the Urban League of Springfield (Springfield, MA) has been providing services to the community in times of need.

With the coronavirus pandemic affecting education, employment and the well-being of people across the globe, the work of the Urban League and other community organizations has become even more critical, said Paul Reville, a professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and keynote speaker for the Urban League’s 107th anniversary celebration.

This year’s event was held online Thursday due to the state’s social distancing requirements.

The event also honored 33 scholarship recipients who have demonstrated academic success and community service. The Urban League provides $30,000 to $40,000 per year for the African American Scholarship Fund, which is maintained at the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts.

National Urban League Offers The Biden-Harris Administration An Agenda For Racial And Economic Justice

Marc H. Morial
President and CEO
National Urban League

“Now is when the real work begins. The hard work. The necessary work. The good work. The essential work to save lives and beat this pandemic. To rebuild our economy so it works for working people. To root out systemic racism in our justice system and society. To combat the climate crisis. To unite our country and heal the soul of our nation. The road ahead will not be easy. But America is ready. And so are Joe and I.” – Vice President-elect Kamala Harris

The 77 and a half million votes for President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris are the most ever cast for a presidential ticket, breaking the previous record set in 2008 for President Obama.

In this election, as in 2008, Black voter turnout made the difference.  They were not voting for a symbolic victory. The nation is in crisis. They want action. And so does the National Urban League.
