Urban League of Rochester (Rochester, NY) has named a new president and CEO.
The Board of Directors announced that Dr. Seanelle Hawkins was selected after a nationwide search. She will be the first woman to ever serve as president of Urban League of Rochester.
Dr. Hawkins began her new position on June 3.
She has been the executive director of Sojourner House at Pathstone and Wilson Commencement Park.
“We are fully confident that Dr. Hawkins can pick up the baton where current CEO William G. Clark leaves off,” the board said in a statement released Thursday. “Dr. Hawkins has a wealth of experience in non-profit management. Her experience coupled with her passion will continue to lead ULR to new levels.”

Sixty youth began their summer break at various sites in the City of Columbia as part of the Columbia Urban League's (Columbia, SC) Science Technology Enrichment Program (STEP).
STEP exposes youth ages 14 to 19 to global technology and the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics skills necessary to obtain and maintain gainful employment in the emerging global workforce.
"In today's dynamic world, the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math are crucially important," Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin said. "Teaching our young people about science, technology, engineering, and math education breeds a generation of innovators and critical thinkers."
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins announced that the city will host its first Minneapolis Black Business Week from Friday, July 19 to Saturday, July 27.
The week will feature an exhibition of Black-owned businesses in Minneapolis; job-seekers, business owners, creatives, and would-be entrepreneurs will have opportunities to expand their networks, hear firsthand from local officials about how to bid for procurement opportunities, and learn more about existing resources.
Former Vice President and 2020 presidential hopeful Joe Biden will visit Indianapolis between July 24 and July 27.
Biden and others are set to participate in the National Urban League's 2019 Conference at the Indiana Convention Center.
Besides Biden, several candidates seeking the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination are scheduled, including Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Cory Booker and Pete Buttigieg.
