Aida Turner
Program Manager, Education and Youth Division, National Urban League
Adia Turner is originally from Stone Mountain, GA. At NUL, she works as a Program Manager in the Education and Youth Division, offering assistance, training, and management to the affiliates in the NUL signature program, Project Ready. She attended Boston University as a Posse Scholar, receiving her B.A in History with a minor in African American studies. While there, she became the second Black woman commencement speaker in 144 years. She was a Teach for America Corps 2019 corps member, placed in St. Louis, Mo. She taught 7th-grade English at Long International Middle School in south St. Louis. While there, Adia became the content lead for the entire school’s ELA department. While teaching, she graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an M.ED in Secondary Education. Following her time in St. Louis, she taught 8th-grade English at Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy 1. Her time as a teacher solidified her belief that education is the only true path to freedom. She hopes to one day get her Ph.D. in Education and Theology to reimagine what education can look like from a non-western, community-based perspective.
