Urban League Munch & Learn Benefit Students
The Milwaukee Urban League or MUL (Milwaukee, WI) will launch its Munch & Learn initiative, a MUL outreach program that provides MUL Power Paks to students and families at Oliver Wendell (O.W.) Holmes School and Auer Avenue School. The purpose of Munch & Learn is to support students and families at O.W. Holmes and Auer Avenue, by providing snacks to fuel student learning at home, along with educational activity ideas and vital employment opportunities for the families. Power Pak Bags will be filled with non-perishable snack items, student activities, and hygiene products. In addition, Power Paks will include 10@10 (10 activities for children to do at 10am). School staff will also distribute information on MUL employment opportunities to parents. Power Paks will be distributed as families pick up laptops and other school materials needed during the state-sanctioned quarantine due to COVID-19.

Why: COVID-19 continues to create many challenges for individuals in Milwaukee, but we are especially sensitive to the burdens African American families are experiencing as a result in our community. “As a United Way and MPS partner, we are committed to finding creative ways to support children and families in our adopted schools during this unsettling time,” said MUL President and CEO, Dr. Eve M. Hall. MUL is proud to partner with Oliver Wendell Holmes and Auer Avenue for our national Project Ready and STEAM programming, as well as our Junior Urban League Guild student volunteer and advocacy group.
Who: The Milwaukee Urban League was founded in 1919 and is one of the oldest Urban League affiliates in the country. MUL’s mission is to lead through education, employment, and advocacy to achieve economic vibrancy and equal access to all industries and disciplines that position African Americans to create wealth and live a better quality of life.
