MADISON (Jan. 9, 2022) – The Urban League of Greater Madison (Madison, WI) has definitely played their part in making sure that Black entrepreneurs have a space to grow their craft.

The Black Business Hub, scheduled to open this upcoming summer, already has a list of businesses that will fill up their huge space, with the assistance of startup accelerator and venture capital firm gener8tor that started last year.

The partnership has proven to be incredibly successful – gener8tor ran both gALPHA and gBETA, training programs that were geared specifically for entrepreneurs of color.

The first round of gALPHA program ran last spring and welcomed 26 entrepreneurs, while the gBETA program was capped at five startups. Participants of these programs were incredibly positive, and it was due to this that the two organizations decided to continue the partnership.

Urban League CEO Ruben Anthony said, “One of the things that we said right from the beginning is that the Black Business Hub won’t just be a building.”

He continues, “We’re building the training infrastructure (and)the economic support infrastructure to start having businesses in this region look to the Black Business Hub for assistance. We can’t wait until the doors of the building are open, and we don’t intend to.”

In a press release, Lauren Usher, gener8tor gBETA vice president, said, “We’re thrilled to partner with the Urban League of gReater Madison to bring these programs to life and support the technology and sustainability industries in Madison. We’ve seen the incredible economic impact of the gBETA program in other parts of the country, and we’re excited to bring that same impact to Madison.”
