HARTFORD (Aug. 28, 2023) – Hey, kids of Hartford, summer is almost over.

The Urban League of Greater Hartford (Hartford, CT) recently held an event for students and their parents to pick up free school supplies.

The Urban League was able to give away 550 backpacks to families at their offices on Woodland Street.

The backpacks contained several supplies for kids to aid them on their first day of classes, such as folders, pens, pencils, notebooks, and index cards. Also available for students and their families were clothes, and vendors with other supplies.

Hartford parent Beverly Hines said, “School supplies are expensive. Let’s face the truth. School supplies are expensive. Books, clothing, and especially for the children who wear uniforms to school. Having that extra burden of having to buy supplies, plus clothing, it’s really a big dent.”
