CLEVELAND (Dec. 12, 2022) – With the help of JPMorgan Chase and others, the Urban League of Greater Cleveland (Cleveland, OH) launched its Equity Institute on Thursday, Dec. 8th.

The Institute was launched at a symposium held at the Hilton North Downtown Cleveland.

JPMorgan invested $125,000 into the Institute, which hopes to be dedicated to creating pathways for organizations and individuals to education, training, skill development, and other programs in an institute specifically dedicated to the areas of diversity and ESG spaces.

Marsha A. Mockabee, President and CEO of the Urban League, said, “The Urban League is in a unique position and time in history, to be a pivotal player in the Race, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and ESG spaces.”

“We are receiving unprecedented requests for thought leadership, technical assistance, and best practices, from across various systems in our community. To position ourselves as credible leaders in the space, we knew it was appropriate to establish a center that would codify our efforts.”

David Allen, Market Team Lead for Northern Ohio of J.P. Morgan Private Bank, said, “Businesses have a responsibility to help solve challenges facing the customers and communities it serves, and that includes addressing long-standing racial and economic inequities. This investment will help businesses and community partners in Northeast Ohio close the racial wealth divide creating meaningful, lasting, and equitable change in the market.”

Dr. Christopher Metzler, SVP of Corporate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the National Urban League, said, “The National Urban League is pleased that the Urban League of Greater Cleveland is the first the launch this Equity Institute and serve as a model for people across the country, as to how you go about making equity a part of your organizational structure.”
