Urban League of Greater Chattanooga Students Wins 2nd Place in Nationals
CHATTANOOGA (Aug. 7, 2023) – At this year’s Youth Leadership Summit held in Houston, the Project Ready students of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN) won second place.
They placed second during the case competition of the Summit, which allows for students to present a solution to a problem that they see in their community. Their proposal 423 – T.K.T.T. (Think and Know the Tactics) focused on how to reduce gun violence amongst youth.
Candy Johnson, President and CEO of the Urban League, was thrilled at their performance.
“Project Ready students engage with our education team program leaders and volunteers regularly throughout the year on various initiatives such as our college and career readiness curriculum, leadership, academic and civic development. I am beyond proud of these students and their tremendous efforts to prepare and advocate for issues they care about in our community during the competition. They represented Chattanooga with the level of excellence from which we strive to build our Project Ready program. This is our first time ever placing as an affiliate and that’s major.”
The students who represented the Urban League were Kennedy Garrett, incoming freshman at Middle Tennessee State University, and three Hamilton County juniors – Trinity Williams, Timothy Rice III, and Te’Sean Murphy.
