CHATTANOOGA (Jan. 23, 2023) – In honor of Martin Luther King Day, the Urban League of Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN) hosted their Youth Symposium at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.
The event, in its third year, seeks to highlight youth leaders as part of the Urban League’s National Achievers Society.
There were students from nine different area schools, also helped plan and host the event.
The students participated in a debate covering economic, racial, and environmental justice issues after hearing of all of Dr. King’s accomplishments.
One of the goals of the National Achievers Society is to train a new generation of minority leaders within the Chattanooga area.
Taylor Bryant, a student who is in the Society, said, “It inspires me as a young black woman to know that I can do it too. And I have the same power that everybody else does and equal opportunities. And it just helps me know that I have dreams and I can make those dreams become reality.”
