National Urban League and DoorDash Expand the Virtual Financial Empowerment Center with New Mobile App

NEW YORK (March 25, 2025) – The National Urban League, in partnership with DoorDash, is proud to announce the expansion of the Virtual Financial Empowerment Center (VFEC) through the launch of the VFEC App in April 2025. Since its launch, the VFEC has offered personalized financial coaching and self-paced learning opportunities that equip individuals and families with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve financial stability and build generational wealth.
With the launch of the app, access to financial empowerment resources will expand dramatically, allowing program participants to engage with expert-driven financial literacy tools—anytime, anywhere. The mobile platform will feature curated, on-demand content, engaging short-form videos, and interactive lessons, meeting people where they are and equipping them with the knowledge they need to navigate their financial journey with confidence.
“Financial empowerment is key to thriving communities, and the VFEC app is a powerful tool in building the future we want to see for the people that we serve,” said Marc H. Morial, President & CEO of the National Urban League. “By expanding access to free, practical financial education, we are equipping individuals and families with the resources they need to build a secure future. This initiative is a natural extension of our commitment to defeating poverty, closing the racial wealth gap, and ensuring that every person has the opportunity to thrive.”
“VFEC represents what DoorDash and the National Urban League’s partnership does best: getting educational resources to the people who need them, how they need them,” said Katherine Rodriguez, Head of National Policy Engagement, DoorDash. “Since our partnership began, we have seen this platform grow and expand its offerings to over 50 unique courses for the 92 affiliates of the National Urban League. Launching the VFEC app will ensure that Urban League clients and Dashers across the country can easily access these life-changing financial education resources at home, on the go, and on their own timeline.”
The VFEC combines the National Urban League’s proven educational methods and models and features trusted content from the League’s long-time partners to provide easily accessible and on-demand learning for people of all ages and baseline knowledge. The impact of the program to date includes:
- 675 users engaged through the pilot cohort across 11 Urban League affiliates
- 1,777 total course enrollments
- 1,467-course completions
