National Urban League Welcomes Attorney General Garland's Commitment To Voting Rights

NEW YORK (June 11, 2021) – National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial today issued the following statement in response to Attorney General Merrick Garland’s plan to defend voting rights:
“At a time when suppressive voting laws are sweeping our country and the right to vote is at risk for so many, we applaud the commitment of the Biden Administration and Department of Justice to investigate voter suppression tactics.
“By doubling voting rights enforcement staff and confirming key civil rights leaders Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke, this Administration has shown its dedication to protecting the civil rights of all people, a commitment that we have not seen in many years.
“We must continue to protect the right to vote and call on Congress to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.”
