National Urban League: Rep. Higgins' Racist Comments Hit "New Depths of Hatefulness and Dishonesty

NEW YORK (September 25, 2024) — National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins' racist comments about Haitian immigrants:
"Such a disgusting display of bigotry shouldn't be surprising, coming from someone who bragged about voting for a grand wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, but Higgins has reached new depths of hatefulness and dishonesty. Higgins almost certainly is aware that the vile rumors he is spreading are false, in keeping with his history of trafficking in wild, unsupported conspiracy theories.
"I urge authorities to take seriously his implied threat of harm that will come to Haitian immigrants after the next president is inaugurated, and I urge the people of Louisiana's 3rd congressional district to consider seriously the shame Higgins has brought on their communities.
"Higgins' vile racist rhetoric is beneath the self-respect of any American, much less a member of Congress."
