National Urban League Mourns the Reiners and Condemns Trump's Insensitive Response
NEW YORK (December 15, 2025) — National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner:
"The National Urban League joins the nation in mourning iconic filmmaker and social justice activist Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, and in condemning the bizarre and insensitive reaction of President Trump.
"The violent fatal attack on the Reiners is especially tragic for the apparent involvement of their own troubled son, whom they fought so hard to save from drug addiction. Families across the nation, regardless of their political affiliation, can relate to their struggle.
"The President's callous response betrays not only his lack of empathy for those battling addiction and for the loved ones desperate to find them help, but his apparent belief that life and death hinges upon one's loyalty to Trump.
"Reiner was a gifted artist who played a major role in shaping the popular culture across four decades and an activist who used his influence to help create a better world. The murder of the Reiners is tragic. President Trump's inability to rise above his own petty resentments is appalling.
"The National Urban League offers its deepest condolences to the Reiner family and all who grieve their passing."
