National Urban League Awarded $4M Grant For Re-Entry Programs
NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE AWARDED $4 MILLION GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR FOR RE-ENTRY PROGRAMS
NEW YORK (April 14, 2023) – Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, today announced a $4 million award received from the U.S. Department of Labor to fund the organization’s Growth Opportunities Program – a re-entry program that operates out of the Urban League affiliates in Buffalo, New York, Chicago, Illinois, and St. Louis, Missouri:
“This funding will allow us to continue to help the many men, women and young adults who desperately need access to resources and services upon re-entering their communities,” said Marc H. Morial. “We want to thank the U.S. Department of Labor for its continued support. Our organization and its affiliates don’t just help reduce barriers that incarcerated individuals often meet, but we remain supportive of their journeys every step of the way.”
“The Growth Opportunities Program provides resources to justice system-involved youth and young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 that live in communities that experience high instances of violent crime. The program, which operated in Buffalo, Chicago, and St. Louis –feature wrap around social services that include expungement, violence prevention workshops, occupational skills training, and placement into work experiences such as internships, apprenticeships, and part-time and full-time employment.
“The National Urban League’s Urban Reentry Jobs Program is currently located in various cities throughout the country. Since 2020, we have successfully serviced over 1,044 men, women, and young adults.”
