National Urban League President Marc Morial to Testify Before Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs
Will Urge Passage of the Fair Access to Financial Services Act During Hearing on “Fairness in Financial Services: Racism and Discrimination in Banking”
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial on Thursday will testify to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs on racism in the banking industry and urge passage of the Fair Access to Financial Services Act.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in Dirksen Senate Office Building 538, and will be live-streamed on the Committee’s website.
The National Urban League has been at the forefront of the effort to build generational wealth within the Black community and other underserved populations. The global pandemic revealed the true extent of the economic insecurity of communities of color, and highlighted the historical, systemic bigotry of banks and governments against communities of color. Yet, newly systemic efforts to address the harms of that bigotry have been met with an outrageous, coordinated attack.
In his testimony, Morial will outline the dire consequences of an American financial system that has systematically cut-off and shut-out men and women, families, businesses, and communities of color from access to capital.
