LOS ANGELES (Oct. 31, 2022) – The Los Angeles Urban League (Los Angeles, CA) held a graduation ceremony for the UCLA Medical Assistant Program recently.

In a 400% increase over last year, there were eight students graduating. The Urban League, via its supportive platform, enabled the students to enter the program to earn a livable wage. All graduates have been offered employment throughout the UCLA health portfolio.

The program teaches its students the importance of listening and advocating for their patients, which is a vital aspect of the program. Diversity and advocacy are main tenets of the program and are a part of the students’ training.

Jamecca Marshall, vice president of programs for the Urban League, said, “Our desire is to help you achieve your goals. We would like to help you progress. Thank you for believing in yourself.”

Michael Lawson, president and CEO of the Urban League, spoke to the class and said, “You can do this and we are here with you! Just do the work and study the material. Make us proud of you.”
