Knoxville Area Urban League Helps Students Get Ready for School

KNOXVILLE (July 17, 2023) – The Knoxville Area Urban League (Knoxville, TN) is already in back-to-school mode.

The Urban League will be hosting its yearly “Shoes for School” event on Saturday, Aug. 5th. The event, which has been going on for over twenty years, provides students with shoes and school supplies.

At last year’s event, the Urban League was able to give out more than 1,700 pairs of shoes, along with about 3,000 sets of school supplies.

President of the Urban League, Dr. Charles F. Lomax, said, ““From previously volunteering at Shoes for School to leading this outstanding event for the first time as the new president and CEO, I am overcome with gratitude for our community that unites annually to give our youth opportunities to excel. Education is the great equalizer, and it takes all of us – businesses, organizations, and individuals – to ensure a better future for the next generation. Please join us in making this Shoes for School more impactful than ever.”

The Urban League is still taking donations for the event and is partnering with other non-profits to identify those students who need the most assistance.
