Knoxville Area Urban League Accepting Pre-Apprenticeship Applications

KNOXVILLE – The Knoxville Area Urban League (Knoxville, TN) will now start taking applications for a program that is hoping to build a pipeline of construction workers.
The Level UP Pre-Apprenticeship Program is an eight-month program what will have participants gain experience on construction sites. While also working on a full-time crew, they are also expected to attend a weekly class.
While in the program, the participants will be paid for work done.
The Urban League’s Vice President of Economic and Business, Terrence Carter, has stated that this program will aid construction companies which of the participants they would like hire after the program is over.
“Contractors get a chance to test drive the employees, if you will, for eight months to teach them what they want to know and see if they’re a good fit for the company. The goal is to get these people hired.”
Participants could be involved with building a baseball field in downtown Knoxville, among other projects, which will bolster the Knoxville workforce.
