INDIANAPOLIS – Back in 2020, after a summer of protests that cried out for social justice, the Indianapolis Urban League (Indianapolis, IN) announced a $100 million gift to the Indianapolis African American Quality of Life Initiative. The Initiative sought to make investments in health, employment, education, and other areas of life.

Now, the Urban League has announced that the first round of over $20 million in grants is being targeted “to Black-led, Black-serving community organizations to address critical needs and solutions facing African Americans in the community,” said Urban League president Tony Mason.

This first round of grants will go to 52 organizations. The funding was made available to the National Urban League by the Lilly Endowment. Later this year, a second round of grants will open.

Some of the organizations that have received grants in this first round include Flanner House of Indianapolis, Community Alliance of the Far East Side (CAFÉ), Center of Wellness for Urban Women, Indiana Black Expo, Edna Martin Christian Center, Children’s Policy & Law Initiative of Indiana, New Beginnings of Indianapolis, Educate Me Foundation, INC., and various others.
