From Hardship to Helping Others: Urban League's Mission Inspiring Others to Give Back
Over the last few weeks, you all have helped us raise $20,000 so far. Plus, through our sponsor, iThink Financial’s donation boxes, over 2,000 meals worth of food for our neighbors in need have been donated.
It’s all part of our 35th annual Project Thanksgiving — alongside the United Way of Palm Beach County . With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, there is still time to help out!
Each and every donation goes right back into multiple agencies who make a difference across our region. That includes Urban League in Palm Beach County (West Palm Beach, FL).
Urban League has been changing so many stories across our area, one chapter at a time. For more than 50 years, the Urban League of Palm Beach County has been working to open doors for families who need it most!
“I was a little bit ashamed, but you know, they made me feel welcome,” said Nicole Young, client of the Urban League.
Nicole Young is now a volunteer and committee member at Urban League. But her journey here didn’t start out that way. Back in 2015, Young had just moved to the area and came to a food drive for help.
“I had fallen on hard times financially, and I had three children in my home, so you know, trying to get food was very hard,” said Young.
Urban League helped to jump start a life she dreamed of.
“It empowered me through the food at first, but also through all their programs. I became a homeowner through the program. Becoming a homeowner, then they have entrepreneur programs. I became an entrepreneur,” said Young.
The Urban League has done that for thousands of others too. Patrick Franklin is the President and CEO of Urban League. His goal is simple, to push for equal opportunity.
“When we see the need, we try to address the needs,” said Franklin.
