Former Charter Executive Don Cravins Returns to Expanded Role at National Urban League
FORMER CHARTER EXECUTIVE DON CRAVINS RETURNS TO EXPANDED ROLE AT NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE
NEW YORK (April 19, 2021) — Former Charter Communications Executive Don Cravins, Jr., has been named the National Urban League’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
“Don’s experience and expertise will help shape the National Urban League response to a renewed national emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion, National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Most recently, Cravins served as Vice President of Policy and External Affairs at Charter Communications where he was responsible for building diverse partnerships with external stakeholders. Prior to that he was the Senior Vice President of Policy of the National Urban League and also served as the Executive Director of its Washington Bureau.
Cravins has a long history of public service and brings a wealth of experience to the National Urban League. He was the only African-American Chief of Staff in the Senate when he accepted that role from U.S. Sen. Mary L. Landrieu of Louisiana in January of 2013. Prior to that, he served as one of only two African-American staff directors in the U.S. Senate from 2009 to 2013, when he was Staff Director and Chief Counsel for the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
He was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2004. At that time, he and his father, State Senator Don Cravins, Sr., made Louisiana history by becoming the first and only father and son to serve in the Louisiana Legislature at the same time. In 2006, Don was elected to the Louisiana Senate for the seat vacated by his father, which he held until 2009. He was a Congressional candidate in the 7th Congressional District of Louisiana in 2008.
In addition to his duties at the National Urban League, Don is an adjunct professor at The George Washington University and is also a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer in the District of Columbia Army National Guard.
A native of Southwest Louisiana, Cravins earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University and a law degree from the Southern University Law Center.
