COLUMBUS (March 27, 2023) – The Columbus Urban League is preparing ways to help the community pay their electricity bills this summer.

AEP Ohio customers are expected to see an increase in their electricity bills this coming summer, and the Urban League is looking for ways to help residents.

Stephanie Hightower, President and CEO of the Urban League, said, “It’s coming and there’s nothing we can do about it, but to adjust how we help people to keep them stabilized, that’s what we have to concentrate on.”

With new rates reportedly coming in June, the Urban League is looking at new ways to fight the hike.

“At least we know what we are going to be dealing with and can find new innovative ways and ways to work with our elected officials and the private sector to help us figure out how to make sure people can be stabilized, stay in their homes and keep their utilities on,” said Hightower.
