Cleveland Cavaliers Honor Urban League Leader

Cleveland (Jan. 30, 2023) - As part of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day festivities on January 16, 2023, at the Cleveland Cavaliers/New Orleans Pelicans basketball game, Urban League of Greater Cleveland’s (Cleveland, OH) President & CEO Marsha A. Mockabee was honored during half-time in front of 20,000 Cavs fans for being a Difference Maker in the community.
During the presentation, the Cavaliers noted that Mockabee is the first woman to hold this position in the 103-year-old history of the Cleveland chapter. They also emphasized in her role, she leads an agenda empowering African Americans to develop and exercise their potential on par with all other Americans through education, research, advocacy, and provision of services.
During the game, the Cavaliers also partnered with the Urban League to raise funds through a 50/50 raffle. A total of $7000 in proceeds will benefit My Brother’s Keeper Greater Cleveland Chapter, which was launched by the ULGC in 2021 to support boys and young men of color in the Cleveland community. The program provides enriching opportunities for students to gain exposure to various career fields as well as self-empowerment and advocacy tools.
