CIVIL RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE LEADERS CONVERGE ON GEORGIA AS SENATE RUNOFF LOOMS UNDER NEW VOTING RESTRICTIONS AND A WAVE OF MISINFORMATION TARGETING BLACK VOTERS

New Black Wall Street, Emblem of Black Economic Empowerment, to Host Media Briefing

ATLANTA, GA – Leaders of several of the nation’s most influential civil rights and social justice organizations will gather in Stonecrest, Georgia, on Sunday to confront a campaign of voter suppression and misinformation intended to dissuade Black Georgians from voting in Tuesday’s runoff election for the U.S. Senate.

National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial,  Urban League of Greater Atlanta President and CEO Nancy Flake Johnson, Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Alexis McGill Johnson, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation President and CEO Melanie Campbell, Georgia NAACP State Conference President Gerald A. Griggs, Black Voters Matter Co-Founder LaTosha Brown, and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Rev. Dr. Jamal Bryant will canvass and encourage voters to participate in the election and combat misinformation.

The gathering is part of The National Urban League’s voter education and civic engagement initiative, Reclaim Your Vote State of Emergency Road Tour.

A media briefing will take place at 12 noon, at New Black Wall Street, 8109 Mall Parkway, Stonecrest. An incubator of minority and women-owned businesses, New Black Wall Street is a tribute to the affluent Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that was destroyed in 1921 through senseless acts of racial violence, and an emblem of the issues at stake in the election.

The leaders then will canvass door-to-door to connect with voters, clarifying information about the election and encouraging residents to reclaim their voices at the ballot box.
