Chicago Urban League Unveils Solar Panels

CHICAGO – There’s been a new addition to the Chicago Urban League’s (Chicago, IL) building on the South Side.

In an event on Wednesday, April 27th, the Chicago Urban League unveiled solar panels that they had installed on the roof of their building, with the addition of a solar car port in their parking lot. It was the largest solar installation project in the history of Chicago.

For Chicago Urban League President and CEO, Karen Freeman-Wilson, this marks an incredible opportunity.

“For business, for workforce development, for sustainability,” she remarked.

The head of this project, Chicago Urban League’s head of workforce development, Andrew Wells, had started a solar job training program more than 3 years ago to expose the new field of renewable energy to the Chicago public. The Urban League then decided to install solar panels onto their building in a step further.

The national President and CEO of the Urban League movement, Marc Morial, applauded the work of the Chicago Urban League in being on the front lines in investing in renewable energy.

He said, “As we address climate challenge we face, we want people in our community to be front and center for the job opportunities.”
