Chicago Urban League Helps Residents with Green Jobs Training

CHICAGO – In an announcement, ComEd announced that over 600 people had completed clean energy job training programs, including a program spearheaded by the Chicago Urban League (Chicago, IL).
ComEd has partnered with area non-profit organizations in a push to help train individuals with job training specializing in the green industry.
ComEd had partnered with the Urban League, along with several other agencies for these specialized programs. As the company has partnered with organizations that have serviced minority communities, the 2021 graduate class has boasted an incredibly group of diverse graduates.
This is par for the course for the Urban League.
President and CEO of the Urban League, Karen Freeman-Wilson, said, “One of the ways the Chicago Urban League works to advance economic equity is by preparing people from underserved communities for in-demand jobs. Over the past few years, we’ve had dozens of trainees complete our social panel installation training and go on to successful careers that have changed not only their lives and the lives of their families, but their outlook on the future.”
Gil C. Quiniones, CEO of ComED, agrees.
“Access to comprehensive training and education programs is essential for creating a talent pipeline to meet current demand and to expand solar and new clean energy technologies for the future. This will help ensure that more residents, who reflect the diversity of our communities, benefit from family-sustaining jobs created by clean energy growth right here in Illinois.”
