‘Breaking Bread, Stopping Bullets’: Urban League Holds Forum on Youth Police Interactions

The Fort Wayne Urban League (Ft. Wayne, IN) held its first ‘Breaking Bread, Stopping Bullets’ dinner forum on Thursday (March 20th).
It is part of a new initiative by the organization called ‘Mothers for the Movement: Every Child Home Alive’, educating the youth on how to behave during a traffic stop.
“Sometimes we have to have hard conversations. What do you do if the police pull you over in traffic? How do you behave? What are protocols that would be acceptable?” said Aisha Arrington, President and CEO of the Fort Wayne Urban League.
This inspired her to put together the event, alongside an educational video explaining the correct protocol for police interactions. A protocol that was vetted by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
“It would be difficult to find a black or brown family that is not already having difficult conversations with their children about possible police encounters. These protocols can assist with that conversation and better prepare our young people should they ever find themselves pulled over by the police,” Arrington said.
