Watch: Marc Morial: Make Equity a ‘Guiding Principle’

The president and CEO of the National Urban League called for linking the past, present and future at the U.S. News State of Equity in America forum.

To build a more equitable America today, we need to look to tomorrow or “skate to where the puck is going,” said Marc Morial, president and CEO of the National Urban League and former mayor of New Orleans, who spoke at the recent "The State of Equity in America" forum hosted by U.S. News & World Report.

At the event, thought leaders and experts from business, government, health, the nonprofit world and other sectors came together to highlight solutions to address economic and health inequities across the country, with a special focus on New York.

In forecasting the future, Morial acknowledged the need to take stock of the past, namely the origins of the current state of the nation’s inequities – from housing discrimination and devaluation to the civil rights leaps in the 1960s.
