Virginia Union University Honors National Urban League's Marc Morial with Lifetime Achievement Award

RICHMOND, VA (April 4, 2024) -- Virginia Union University will present National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial with a Lifetime Achievement Award at its 9th annual Legacy Award Gala at the Greater Richmond Convention Center on Friday.

“Virginia Union has upheld a renowned tradition of excellence and opportunity for more than a century and a half, and I am honored by this recognition,” Morial said. “The National Urban League is proud to share VUU’s values and a common mission of challenging and empowering young people to become the leaders of tomorrow.”

 The Legacy Awards celebrate exceptional individuals whose contributions have left a profound mark on the community, symbolizing excellence.  The other honorees are:
 

  • Community Leader of the Year: Mayor Levar Stoney (City of Richmond) – A prominent civil rights advocate and Richmond’s mayor.
  • Beacon of Light Award: First Thursday Group – A collective of VUU alumni fostering collaboration and community engagement.
  • HBCU Impact Award: Tawan Davis (The Steinbridge Group) – A successful business executive known for strategic vision in urban development.

  • Corporate Leader of the Year: George Keith Martin, Esq. (McGuire Woods) – A specialist in real estate law and former managing partner at McGuire Woods.

  • The evening’s theme, "All Things Excellence," pays homage to VUU's 159-year history of providing a nurturing and intellectual environment for learning.
