CINCINNATI (April 17, 2023) – The Urban League of Southwestern Ohio (Cincinnati, OH) has honored exemplary community leaders for the 29th time.

In an event named “Glorifying the Lions,” held last Thursday, April 13th, the Urban League honored six “Lions” – leaders over the age of 65 who have committed to serving their community. The award title comes from a Nigerian proverb, “Until lions have their historians, tales of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.”

Christie Kuhns, President of the Urban League, said, “We’re so excited to celebrate these six distinguished leaders who have changed the face of Southwestern Ohio by their words, actions, and deeds. These living Lions have done so much to impact their community, and we could not be prouder to acknowledge their achievements.”

This year’s honorees are Michael Dantley, bishop and senior pastor of the Christ Emmanuel Christian Fellowship; Stephen Hightower, president and CEO of Hightower’s Petroleum; Angelita Jones, president and CEO of Eastern Personnel; Dr. Camille Jones, retired assistant health commissioner and division director of the Cincinnati Health Department; Peg Moertl, principal of Grovedale Consulting; and Rabbi Gary Zolam, executive director of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.
