GARY – For a fourth consecutive year, NIPSCO has awarded The Urban League of Northwest Indiana (Gary, IN) $60k in their college and career readiness program partnership.

The funding was given to the Urban League in support of the Urban League’s hostingof the 2022 NIPSCO Energy Ambassador (NEA) Program. The program consists of virtual workshops and activities that will encourage high school juniors and seniors to pursue STEM careers. Students will learn from NIPSCO leaders that will teach students about gas and electricity as well as NIPSCO programs.

According to Alexius Barber, NIPSCO Public Affairs Manager, NIPSCO is very happy to continue this partnership with the Urban League.

“We are proud to once again the NEA program and impact scholars as they work toward educational and career goals. It is these types of partnerships that promote positive change, encourage our youth and make a difference in our communities.”

In 2021, 35 students completed the program who then became NIPSCO Energy Ambassadors, bringing awareness about safety and NIPSCO programs.

Like Barber, Dr. Vanessa Allen-McCloud, President and CEO of Urban League of Northwest Indiana, she is incredibly excited to see the NIPSCO and Urban League partnership continue.

“I have been afforded the opportunity to witness firsthand how the NIPSCO Energy Ambassador Program has benefitted students by helping them evolve into confident young professionals and scholars. WE appreciate the long-term partnership with NIPSCO and their continued support to further the goals of the NEA program and help us positively influence students throughout northwest Indiana.”
