NEW ORLEANS (July 24, 2023) – The Urban League of Louisiana (New Orleans, LA) just announced an initiative to support Black women in the retail industry.

Along with five other National Urban League Entrepreneurship Centers across the country, the Urban League of Louisiana is launching the Retail Accelerator Program, which is being sponsored by the Walmart.org Center for Racial Equity.

The first group will include ten retail businesses across the Pelican State, all owned by Black women. The group will receive coaching, mentoring specific to their industry, and targeted training. They will provide counseling on obtaining small business certifications, and guidance on how to pursue private and public contracting opportunities.

President and CEO of the Urban League, Judy Reese Morse, is beyond proud to help. “We are proud to offer this unique program in support of Black women in retail across Louisiana and applaud National Urban League and Walmart for being intentional in its efforts to support Black women founders.”

“As we celebrate the Urban League of Louisiana’s 85th anniversary this year, it is imperative that we continue the organization’s rich history of creating programs and providing resources that yield economic impact and create generational wealth within the Black community. This program is just one more shining example of the Urban League of Louisiana’s commitment to continue this legacy.”
